What is Double vision

Double vision, also known as diplopia, is a condition in which a person sees two images instead of one.It occurs when the eyes don’t work together as a team to focus on a single object. It can be caused by a variety of conditions, including uncorrected refractive errors, strabismus, neurological and muscular disorders, and trauma.Double vision can interfere with a person’s ability to perform everyday activities, like reading, driving, and playing sports. If left untreated, double vision can lead to eye strain, headaches, and even blurred vision. It’s important to get double vision treated as soon as possible in order to prevent these symptoms and maintain good vision.Treatment options can include glasses, contact lenses, vision therapy, and in some cases, surgery.Your eye doctor will be able to determine the best course of treatment based on the cause of your double vision.

Treatment

  1. Medical Treatment
    1. Prism Lenses: Prism lenses are special lenses designed to refract light in order to correct eye alignment problems, such as double vision.
    2. Occlusion Therapy: Occlusion therapy is a non-surgical treatment option that involves covering one eye to help limit the double vision.
    3. Vision Therapy: Vision therapy is a type of treatment that helps retrain the eyes to work together in order to reduce double vision.
    4. Botox Injections: Botox injections can be used to treat certain types of double vision by paralyzing the affected muscles and improving eye alignment.
    5. Orthoptic Exercises: Orthoptic exercises are exercises that help strengthen the eye muscles to help improve eye alignment and reduce double vision.
  2. Surgical Treatment
    1. Surgical Muscle Resection: This procedure involves surgically removing a portion of the muscle that is causing the misalignment of the eyes.
    2. Recession Surgery: This procedure involves surgically repositioning the muscle which is causing the misalignment of the eyes.
    3. Adjustable Sutures: This procedure involves the use of sutures that can be adjusted to correct the misalignment of the eyes.
    4. Orbital Wall Decompression Surgery: This procedure involves surgically removing a portion of the bony walls of the orbit to create space for the extraocular muscles and correct the misalignment of the eyes.
    5. Botox Injections: This procedure involves injecting small amounts of Botox into the muscles that are causing the misalignment of the eyes, to temporarily paralyze the muscles and allow the eyes to realign.
    6. Adjustable Contact Lenses: This procedure involves the use of special contact lenses that can be adjusted to correct the misalignment of the eyes.
  3. Home Remedies
    1. Eye Patch: Eye patching is a simple home remedy to treat double vision by covering the affected eye. This helps reduce the double vision and gives the other eye a chance to rest.
    2. Eye Exercises: Simple eye exercises, like looking up and down, side to side, and rolling the eyes, can help to reduce double vision.
    3. Relaxation Techniques: Relaxation techniques, such as meditation and deep breathing, can help to reduce stress and tension which can contribute to double vision.
    4. Diet Modification: Eating foods that are rich in Vitamin A, such as carrots, spinach and kale, can help to improve eye health and reduce double vision.
    5. Proper Rest: Getting adequate rest and avoiding activities that worsen the double vision can help to reduce symptoms.

Absolutely love how understanding Dr. Kumud Raut is. The only place where I have not been told about only the process of getting a surgery, but rather they insist on educating about how the eye functions and the importance of having a healthy eye before any surgery.
