What is Optic Nerve Evaluation

Optic nerve evaluation is an important part of eye care as it allows your eye doctor to measure the health of your optic nerve. The optic nerve is responsible for carrying the visual signals from the eye to the brain.

The evaluation involves looking at the nerve head to check for any signs of swelling, discoloration, abnormal blood vessels, or other abnormalities. This can be done through a number of methods including ophthalmoscopy, fundoscopy, OCT (optical coherence tomography), and other imaging techniques.

Optic nerve evaluation is important in diagnosing and managing a number of conditions, including glaucoma, macular degeneration, and optic neuritis.Optic nerve evaluation is also used to monitor the progression of these conditions and to determine the effectiveness of treatments.

How Optic Nerve Evaluation is done

  1. First, I will ask you to sit in the chair and relax. Then, I will use a specialized camera to take a picture of your optic nerve. This camera is fully automated and produces very high-resolution images. The image will then be transferred to a computer connected to the camera, where it will be analyzed by specialized software. This software will measure the size and shape of your optic nerve and compare it to a database of normal values. This will allow me to determine if your optic nerve is healthy or if it is affected by any type of disease or condition. Finally, I will discuss the findings with you and answer any questions you might have.

Absolutely love how understanding Dr. Kumud Raut is. The only place where I have not been told about only the process of getting a surgery, but rather they insist on educating about how the eye functions and the importance of having a healthy eye before any surgery.
