Do's for keeping your lenses clean

Cleaning of contact lenses means removal of deposits, debris, and germs from the surface of the lenses. This is essential for the hygiene of the eye and to maintain good vision.
Do's
1. Do wash your hands with soap and water before touching your contact lenses. dry them with a lint free towel
2. Do change the contact lens solution everyday. Even if you are wearing the lenses occationally, still remember to change the solution regularly.
3. do us the rub and rinse method for cleaning the lenses.
4. Do remember to clip your lenses regularly. Nails are a reservoir for germs that can be easily transferred to your lenses. In addition they are capable of tearing your lenses and may in fact injure your eye while inserting or removing the lens.
5. Do remember to clean the lens case regularly. Allow it to air dry.
6. Do replace the lens as advised by your eye doctor
7. Do change the lens case every 3 months.
8. Do put on makeup after inserting the lens. remove contact lens before removing makeup.

Dont' s for keeping the lenses clean

1. Don't overwear the lenses.
2. Don't clean or store the lens in water.
3. Don't forget to wear helmet over the lens when on 2 wheeler.
4. Don't wear the lens if you have eye infection.
5. Don't transfer contact lens solution into smaller containers for travelling. this can compromiuse the sterility of the solution.
6. Don't insert a dropped contact lens into the eye.
7. Don't sleep with your lenses on.
8. Don't top off your contact lens solution.
9. Don' forget your replacement schedule. Soft contact lenses have different replacement scledules depending on whether the lens is a daily wear, a monthly or quarterly disposable contact lens. Talk to your doctor if in doubt.

How to clean your lenses

1. Wash your hands with soap and water. Dry them with a lint free towel.
2. Now remove the contact lens from the eye.
3 .Place it in the palm of your hand. Pour the multipurpose cleaning solution over the lens and gently rub the lens with your finger. . Rinse the lens
with the solution again.
4. Store this lens in your lens case in the correct compartment. make sure you have filled each compartment with the lens solution. Close the lid
tightly. Before closing the lid make sure the lens has settled down completely in the compartment. If it gest caught up in the lid it will get
damaged.
5. Make sure you change this solution daily.

Lens care Solutions / Products

1. Multipurpose Solution :
This is an all in one system used to clean, rinse, disinfect and store contact lenses. This is the most commonly used care system.
2. Hydrogen peroxide based system :
Maybe advised if you are unable to tolerate the multipurpose solution. These solutions come with a special case for storing the lens. Follow all instructions on the label. Never put the solution directly in the eye.
3. Protein removers:
These clean the material that your eyes deposit on your lenses. These are available in tablet or liquid form. Always use these only on advice of your eye doctor.
4. Ultrasonic Contact lens cleaner:
It is a small portable electric device using ultrasound waves with a frequency of 120000- 150000 Hz. per second. This device can clean the lens within two minutes. It is advisible to use this cleaner daily.
5. Autoclave:
It is an instrument for heat sterilisation of contact lenses under pressure usually at a temperature of 121 degree celcius. for a minimum of 15 minutes. Autoclaving is usually reserved for the occational patient who uses a daily wear or prosthetic lens .
