Introduction

Contact lens is one of the most common ways of correcting visual issues. Contact lens should float over your eyeball and move slightly with every blink. You should be able to remove them easily from the eye. But sometimes these contact lenses can stick or fold inside your eyes or can disappear under your eyelid. So let"s see what needs to be done in such cases.

If your lens is not moving but you can see it

This means that your lens has dried up. This happens if you sleep with your lenses on or if you has extended your hours of lens wear. This happens because when you close your eyes there is still a small gap from where the air comes in. This air takes away the elasticity of the lens . This can make the lens stick in the eye.
If you sleep with your lenses on do not try to remove them immediately on waking up. First lubricate your eyes well with saline or lubricating eye drops. then wash your hands with soap and water. Now gently try to remove the lens Do not try to force it out. If needed put more lubricating eye drops. After you remove it put more lubricating eye drops so that the eye feels less irritated. If irritation persists, please visit your eye doctor to rule out corneal abrasion.

If you cannot see the lens

Try closing your eyes and gently massaging the eye and blinking. Flushing the eye with saline or lubricating eye drops can also help to dislodge the lens..Look down and pull your upper lid up and try to find the lens under your upper lid. Always remember .. Do not panic. The lens cannot get lost behind the eye. The anatomy of the eye is such that it is impossible for the lens to move behind the eye.
If you still cannot see the lens chances are that the lens has fallen off from the eye and is no longer in the eye.

Removing a semi soft lens stuck in your eye

If the contact lens is a semi soft contact lens then you should never massage the eye . This is to avoid abrasions in the eye.
If the lens is stuck in the white part of the eye, use your fingertips to press gently on the eye just outside the edge of the lens. This will break the suction that is keeping the lens in the eye. And you will be able to remove it.

When to see a eye doctor

Always see an eye doctor if your eyes get red or irritated or painful or if you think you scratched your eye ball., regardless of whether you were able to remove lens from the eye or not. Also see an eye doctor if your lens had torn and had to be removed in pieces.

Absolutely love how understanding Dr. Kumud Raut is. The only place where I have not been told about only the process of getting a surgery, but rather they insist on educating about how the eye functions and the importance of having a healthy eye before any surgery.
