Watering from the eyes does not by itself cause decreased eyesight.
Watering from the eyes can be a troublesome problem often needing one to keep wiping the eyes .
Tears are needed to keep the front surface of the eye healthy and maintain clear vision. However when the eyes are watery and filled with tears the eyesight may get temporarily blurred until the tears are wiped away or flow out.
Watering from the eyes by itself does not cause persistent decrease in vision.
However watering may be a symptom of other eye diseases which may affect the eyesight.
Which conditions affecting the eyesight cause watering?
Excessive tear secretion may occur in response to irritation or in diseases involving the eyes such as --
>A foreign particle or eyelash on surface of the eye or inner surface of the eyelid, eye injuries or scratched corneas (corneal abrasions)
>Not wearing glasses despite having a number or wearing wrong power spectacles may cause eyestrain and watering.
>Infections on the eye surface such as on the cornea (keratitis, corneal ulcer) or on the white of the eye (conjunctivitis) or on the eyelids (stye, chalazion, blepharitis, meibomitis) or inflammation in the eye (uveitis).
>The eye may not close completely during blinks or during sleep as in facial palsy which may cause part of the eye surface to go dry (exposure keratopathy) and there may be reflex watering.
To effectively diagnose and manage the above mentioned underlying conditions and to treat the problem of watering a thorough and systematic sequential assessment including the history and examination as well as appropriate tests is necessary.
Such an examination would include a detailed eye examination to detect any of the previously mentioned causes as well as an evaluation of the drainage system.
Important cornerstone for evaluation would be study of conjunctival cytology via a swab test.
Watering from the eyes accompanied by decreased vision should not be ignored.
Watering associated with decreased vision or other symptoms such as pain, redness, discharge can be a symptom of serious underlying disease.

Absolutely love how understanding Dr. Kumud Raut is. The only place where I have not been told about only the process of getting a surgery, but rather they insist on educating about how the eye functions and the importance of having a healthy eye before any surgery.
