Foreign object sensation (FOS) is a feeling of something being in the eye which is not actually there. It can include a feeling of grittiness, aching, burning, stinging, or irritation.FOS is usually caused by an underlying condition such as dry eye syndrome, blepharitis, and allergies.FOS can be very uncomfortable and can cause blurred vision or eye fatigue. If left untreated, FOS can lead to more serious conditions such as infection and scarring.Proper diagnosis and treatment of FOS is important in order to prevent further damage to the eye.Treatment of FOS may include artificial tears, topical antibiotics, and anti-inflammatory medications.
